Blog Tour: Dark World by Cara Lynn Shultz

There are not words to describe how excited I am to kick of THE DARK WORLD tour. Cara Lynn Shultz has been a favorite author of mine since I discovered her as a newbie blogger. She's a phenomenal writer, able to write action, romance and comedy with ease on the same page. But more than that, she is a total doll, and I have truly come to adore her. Shortly after I finished THE DARK WORLD, Cara and I were discussing possible actors we imagined, so that's what inspired this post.

Casting Couch - What's your dream cast for THE DARK WORLD movie?

If an author is lucky enough to have Hollywood come calling, they never have a say in who gets cast. But that doesn’t mean we can’t have a little fun imagining who could play the characters in The Dark World, right?

Paige

The actress would have channel Paige’s sass and vulnerability. Humor is her first line of defense, and she definitely hides behind her jokes when she feels exposed or uncomfortable. She’s also tough—hey, my girl is a New Yorker! I think Lucy Hale (Pretty Little Liars) really fits the bill. Chloe Moretz is another actress who could pull off Paige, if we put a wig on her. But if anyone who plays Paige speaks in an “ovah-dun Noo Yawk axe-scent” I’m going to weep tears. Actual tears.

Logan
Logan’s a little tricky to cast. He’s very cute but he’s not drop-dead model hot. That’s an important distinction. Also, he needs to look adorable in a baseball cap. And Logan’s a smart-ass, but a very well-intentioned smart ass. There are two actors I could picture in this role: The first is Dylan O’Brien (Teen Wolf). He’s mastered that balance of sarcastic and sweet. Logan Lerman is another who could play Logan. He already knows how to wield a sword, thanks to Percy Jackson and The Three Musketeers. And hey, he already answers to the name….

Ajax

Everyone who has read The Dark World has pictured someone different in this role. I know I wrote a description for Ajax—dark brown hair, dimples, boyishly handsome—and it’s a description that everyone has completely ignored. I’ve heard that Ajax should be played by the following actors: Jared Leto. Russsell Brand. Michael B. Anthony. Ian Somerhalder. Obviously, I want to look at Ian Somerhalder (all day, every day), and that’s the most accurate casting I’ve seen for this role (*cough* thank you, Hannah *cough*), but I think Adam Brody would make an awesome Ajax.

Dottie
Ah, who to play our favorite spirit from the fifties? I think Dianna Agron or Emily Kinney (The Walking Dead) look the part.

Travis
I’d love to see Jeremy Allen White (Shameless) tackle the smart-mouthed kid from Pelham.

Richard Kelly

Vince Vaughn would be my dream. (Even though he just plays Vince Vaughn in every movie and doesn’t physically look the part.) And if we get Dylan O’Brien for Logan, it would be like a reunion for the cast of The Internship! Otherwise, as my crit partner Dawn Yanek suggested, Jim Gaffigan would be perfect for the role.

Anna Kelly
Someone like Alice (I Am Legend) would be great for Paige’s mom. Physically, she’s almost exactly whom I’ve pictured, although she’s Brazilian and in my head, Anna Kelly’s heritage is Costa Rican (a nod to my adorable nieces).

Pepper & Andie
I kept their physical descriptions pretty vague—except that Pepper has short, layered dark hair—so let’s just put any actress whose behavior makes you feel particularly stabby here.

Rego
Rego is a tough one. The man I picture doesn’t really resemble any actors. He’s intimidating, authoritative, cold, and driven. He commands respect. So, let’s cast Jon Hamm or Johnny Depp. (Hey, I’m not dealing with a budget, or agents, or billing right now, so I’m going for the A-list.)

Della
Megan Fox (with her old face).

And finally…Aiden
Hmm…who could play hot and evil? Ian Somerhalder. (Come on, we have to get him in here somewhere.)

About THE DARK WORLD:

Paige Kelly is used to weird--in fact, she probably corners the market on weird, considering that her best friend, Dottie, has been dead since the 1950s. But when a fire demon attacks Paige in detention, she has to admit that things have gotten out of her league.
Luckily, the cute new boy in school, Logan Bradley, is a practiced demon slayer-and he isn't fazed by Paige's propensity to chat with the dead. Suddenly, Paige is smack in the middle of a centuries-old battle between warlocks and demons, learning to fight with a magic sword so that she can defend herself. And if she makes one wrong move, she'll be pulled into the Dark World, an alternate version of our world that's overrun by demons-and she might never make it home.

    6. You had me at Dylan O'Brien as Logan. He's my absolute favorite TV actor right now! But if only Jensen Ackles was younger…. He'd be my top pick!

    10. I didn't picture Dylan O'Brien as Logan at all! Don't get me wrong, I love me some Dylan O'Brien, but Logan seemed more stoic than Dylan.
